The Vrelo Ibra, also known as the Spring of Ibar, is situated in the northeastern region of Montenegro, in the town of Rožaje. This spring is one of the most prominent natural landmarks in Rožaje.

Located 10 kilometers from the town center, Vrelo Ibra lies on the northern side at the base of Mount Hajla, nestled within a dense conifer forest. Rožaje is known for its numerous springs, but Vrelo Ibra is the most powerful and also the source of Montenegro’s longest river, the Ibar.

A Scenic Journey

The journey to the spring features stunning landscapes, perfect for picnics, sports activities like mountain biking, and other recreational pursuits. The road to the spring starts in Suho Polje, just a few kilometers from Rožaje’s center, along the Ibarska highway towards Berane. You’ll find it on the left side, across the bridge near Hotel Aldi.

Whether you prefer to walk or drive, the road to Vrelo Ibra is accessible by any means. However, the tourism organization of Rožaje highly recommends cycling. Close to the spring, you will find the main tourist mountain lodge in Bandžov.

An Angler’s Paradise

The route from Suho Polje to Vrelo Ibra spans 12 kilometers. Along the upper course of the River Ibar, which follows the main road to the spring, you can encounter an abundance of brown trout. Downstream, you might find chub, carp, and whitefish.
