Introduction to Komovi
Komovi, along with Durmitor and Prokletije, form one of the most impressive mountain ranges in Montenegro. With peaks almost reaching 2500 meters, Komovi pierce the clouds and dominate the southeastern part of the country.
Location and Surroundings
To the northwest, Komovi are bordered by the Bjelasica mountain, while to the south and southeast, they are surrounded by the massifs of the Kučka Mountains, Žijovo, and Prokletije. Despite their relatively small area, the height of Komovi’s peaks ranks them among the highest and most impressive mountains in Montenegro.
The Peaks of Komovi
Komovi is composed of several peaks, with the three most famous being Kučki Kom (2487 m), Ljevoriječki Kom (2469 m), and Vasojevićki Kom (2461 m). Kučki Kom is the highest peak and is named after the Kuči region. Ljevoriječki Kom is named after the Lijeva River, and Vasojevićki Kom is named after the Vasojevići region. Another notable peak is Srednji Kom (2483 m), which is just four meters lower than Kučki Kom and connected by a ridge.
Other Notable Peaks
Other peaks include Bavan (2252 m), known for its steep and long screes descending into the Međukomlje valley and its rocky vertical towers resembling the impressive peaks of the Italian Dolomites. Additional peaks are Rogamski Vrh, Suvovrh, and the gentle peak Štavna.
Surrounding Plateaus
Komovi are surrounded by plateaus such as Štavna, Ljuban, Rogam, and Carine, averaging around 1700 meters above sea level. These plateaus can be explored through a circular tour around Komovi’s peaks, lasting about 8 hours.
Hiking Routes
Among the three main peaks, Vasojevićki Kom offers the easiest and shortest ascent. A slightly longer and more demanding route leads to Ljevoriječki Kom from Štavna via Ljuban. The longest and most challenging ascent is to Kučki Kom from the Eco Katun Štavna on the Štavna plateau.
Glacial Valley of Međukomlje
The Međukomlje valley, formed by ancient glaciers, runs through the Komovi massif, with Vasojevićki Kom on the east and Ljevoriječki, Srednji, and Kučki Kom on the west.

The optimal place for accommodation near Komovi’s peaks is Eco Katun Štavna on the Štavna plateau. Accessible via the road from Andrijevica to the Trešnjevik pass, or from Podgorica through Bioče, Trešnjevik, and Štavna, this complex offers 10 rental cottages.
